Six men have denied taking part in violent clashes with police on a Bradford estate when they appeared before city magistrates.
Gary Hirst, 20, and his brother Paul Hirst, 19, both of Brassy Terrace, East Bowling, Bradford; Ian Rajch, 18, of Westbrook Terrace, Batley; John Broadley, 44, of Thackeray Road, Ravenscliffe, Bradford; David Atkinson, 39, of Norbury Road, Ravenscliffe, Bradford, and John Adamson, 35, of Thackery Road, Ravenscliffe, Bradford, all pleaded not guilty to a charge of violent disorder.
When reporting restrictions were lifted at an earlier hearing, the prosecution described how police went to the Ravenscliffe estate on July 9 after receiving reports that white and Asian youths were gathering in the area. Officers equipped with protective shields were confronted by a group of around 100 youths, some of whom were armed with sticks and wearing face masks.
The prosecution claimed people for the ethnic minorities were targeted during the disturbances.
Ravenscliffe Avenue was cordoned off and police helicopters and video cameras were used.
Gary Hirst, Paul Hirst and Rajch were remanded in custody until August 15. Atkinson, Adamson, and Broadley were given conditional bail until the same date.
