A forward-looking recycling policy is reaping rich rewards for a new Bradford waste management company.
Only set up in April, Associated Waste Management (AWM) easyskips is already processing and reselling more than 50 per cent of all rubbish it receives.
The firm, born out of a merger between Crown Tipping Services and Keenan Skip, is well ahead of its performance targets and has doubled its workforce, from 15 to 30, since launching.
Material dumped at its licensed recycling centre in Valley Road/Canal Road is crushed and separated, using state-of-the-art machinery, into reusable groups such as wood, plastic and metal.
The processed waste is then re-sold, reducing the firm's reliance on environmentally damaging landfill and making a tidy profit into the bargain.
Accounts manager Justine Hudson said: "We're doing between 40 and 50 skips a day at the moment, and we're not just recycling for ourselves but for other skip companies too.''
She added: "We're doing better than we anticipated and exceeding targets, and if things continue like this we will definitely be recruiting more staff to cope with the demand."
Discarded wood is mulched down to be turned into kitchen unit surfacing at the firm's site, while harder material, like bricks and concrete, crushed and used for road surfacing.
Only nine per cent of the UK's waste is currently recycled, but AWM easyskips is already exceeding the Government's 2013 target of 50 per cent waste recovery.
Sales manager Graham Scargill is confident of even greater 'green' success.
"We will try to go as far as we possibly can with the recycling, because our target is to send as little as possible to landfill," he said.
