Two captains are setting the pace in the Secure Trust Bank Bradford League half-season averages.

Top of the batting charts is former Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire opening batsman Ashley Metcalfe of Farsley.

And the leading bowler is Yeadon's new captain Craig Thornton who recently guided his side into the final of the Sovereign Healthcare Priestley Cup.

Metcalfe has an average of 65.86 and is one of four players in the top flight to average more than 50.

The others are Pudsey St Lawrence's overseas batsman Tariq Aziz (61.29), East Bierley wicketkeeper Andrew Bairstow (60.29) and Pudsey Congs opener Andy Bethel (51.50),

Thornton heads the bowling averages after taking 20 wickets at six runs apiece.

His closest rival is Spen Victoria's Australian all-rounder Grant Lambert who topped both the batting and bowling averages in Division Two last season. Lambert is currently fifth in the batting.

Hassan Adnan, the Bradford League's leading runscorer this season, leads the way in Division Two. Idle's overseas star has the highest average in either division - 75.88.

Bankfoot, currently second in the Bowes Section and pushing for promotion, are the only club with two players to average more than 50.

Overseas batsman Salem Mughal (57.71) and Ian Cheeseright (51) have both shown remarkable consistency for their side.

Mirfield's John Storey heads the bowling with an average of 8.26 while his colleague Nick Parkinson is fourth with each of his wickets costing 10.24 runs.
