THE swinging sixties will make a return to a Bramhope school as it celebrates its 40th birthday next term.
Bramhope Primary School held its first classes at the building on Tredgold Crescent in Autumn 1961, and the current staff and pupils are determined to celebrate the school's 40th year in style.
An open day and birthday party, is already being planned for October 5- the theme of the day, of course, will be The Sixties. The school hopes to welcome Leeds Utd chairman and chairman of Education Leeds, Peter Ridsdale, to the party.
New head teacher, Pauline Lawson said: "We're hoping to have a really fun day. We're having a children's sixties disco to finish of the day."
The open day may also mark the birth of a new era of learning for village children - the school's heard-earned computer suite. The school and its PTA have held a number of large fundraising events for the suite, including a successful auction of promises, which attracted big prizes from a number of Leeds businesses.
The money for the computer suite has been partly raised by the school, but will be match-funded with cash from the education authority.
Mrs Lawson said she hoped the new suite would be up and running in time for the birthday party.
