A CAMPAIGN for Horsforth children to attend Horsforth School has been backed by town councillors this week.
As previously reported, angry parents launched a campaign earlier this year to change admission policies to Horsforth School after some children living in the township were initially refused places because they lived out of the catchment area drawn up around the school by Education Leeds.
At a Horsforth Town Council meeting on Tuesday night, councillors made a resolution that priority for places at the over-subscribed school should be given to children living in Horsforth.
The resolution follows a recent meeting between school governors and Education Leeds on the issue when governors resolved that Horsforth children should always have a place.
Town council chairman John Brodwell, who is also chairman of governors at the school, said: "I believe that it is important that priority be given to children living in the town and a resolution by the town council to that effect might be of assistance."
Coun David Read added: "I support the motion. It is our community school and children living here should have the right to go there."
Education Leeds has agreed to examine its admissions policy regarding the school.
