Ilkley ladies aid junior golf
John Hammond's Golf Foundation Competition for junior golf was well supported by Ilkley Golf Club's ladies despite the awful weather and raised £190.
The winner in Division One was Lizzie Brand with 40 points off 19. Second was Sally Ognall with 33 points off 14.
In Division Two Karon French also had 40 points, off 32, and second placed Bev Wood had 35 points off 30. C.S.S. on the day went up to 76.
The A team visited Sandmoor Golf Club and did well winning 5 and 2. The winners were M Schofield, E Webster, S Ognall, D Hawkins, and newcomer to the team, Lizzie Brand.
Ilkley's B team won away at Normanton 4 and 3. The winners there were J Parfitt, P Blackburn, G Bean and M Pack.
Congratulations to Claire Barker and Liz Webster on winning the foursomes competition attached to the Challenge Bowl played at Otley Golf Club last week. They scored 751/2, in windy difficult conditions.
For the past four out of five years Ilkley Ladies have been the winners of this competition. In recognition, Ilkley presented the Yorkshire County with two silver salvers, this year to be brought home happily by the donating club.
Rawdon Golf Club medal
THE July Medal was played at Rawdon Golf Club and the results were:
Division One - R Newton, 64 (13); C N Shackleton, 64 (4); P Davies, 67 (3); D Myers, 67 (6).
Division Two - P Prus, 64 (18); J Holloway, 66 (22); D R Newton, 68 (22); M Kelly, 68 (18).
The Ladies' Section played their July stableford on Tuesday, July 17.
Results - Norma Donnelly, 32 points; Eileen Morgan, 31; Pauline Coyle, 30; Helen Green, 21.

four-ball
THE Millennium Four-Ball Better-Ball stableford was played at Horsforth Golf Club on Saturday with the added option of qualifying to play in Ireland.
Seventy-four couples entered, resulting in some excellent scores.
Results: 1, J Pearson (4) and J Glover (22), 47 points; 2, M Yeadon (16) and M Thorpe (4), 46; 3, P Powell (13) and M Thorpe (4), 45; 4, P Sowden (18) and R Reeves (23), 45, best back three; 5, E Proudfoot (21) and M Gibson (14), 45. M Yeadon and M Thorpe are the qualifiers for Ireland.
The July Mid-week stableford had a very poor entry of only nine players. R Lofts (nine) was the winner with 35 points.
The Ladies' competition was a Four-Ball Better-Ball medal when 11 couples entered.
Results: 1, E Johnson and D Tate, nett 72, best back six; 2, N Beck and M Dawson, 72; 3, C Sudron and J Oakes, 75, best back nine; 4, C Greenhalgh and K Kershaw, 75, best back nine; 5, B Harfield and A M Slack, 75.
Lady President's
Day at Otley
NEITHER the strong wind, nor the short torrential downpour, could dampen the spirits of the ladies playing in Lady President's Prize Day at Otley Golf Club.
Connie Yeadon, in her second year as Lady President, held a stableford competition for her day. An excellent turnout of 85 ladies played in the competition, and the Lady Captain, Jenny Shaw, continued her winning streak by returning the best score of the day.
In the evening Connie hosted a meal and prize presentation in the clubhouse at which 125 relatives, friends and members joined her for a most convivial evening. Connie's granddaughter Katy, aged 11, delighted the members when she assisted Connie with the prize presentation. The winners were:
Lady President's Prize - Jenny Shaw (21), 43 points. Division One - Sheila Sunderland (9), 41; Shirley Thompson (19), 35. Division Two - Isobel Denmark (21), 38; Maureen Bottomley (26), 38. Division Three - Barbara Dakin (29), 38; Pat Clarke (30), 36. Nine Holes - Betty Sharp. Nearest the Pin - Sheila Sunderland.
Saturday saw 137 players taking part in Otley's July Stableford Competition. The star of the day was Eric Frankland, not only returning the highest number of points but getting his handicap reduced. Leading scores:
