Guiseley and neighbouring Rawdon will contest both the Airedale and Wharfedale League's Waddilove and Birtwhistle Cup finals this season.

Sunday's semi-finals saw the two clubs triumph in both competitions.

Brilliant bowling saw Guiseley triumph over Beckwithshaw on Sunday with skipper Steve Thompson quite confident that his side's 159-6 was enough.

Despite 39 from opener Mark Ross Guiseley had been struggling at 73-5 but Thompson (27 no) and Simon Ross (38 no) gave the innings a timely boost.

Then the bowlers got into the action with Neil Allitt opening with a brilliant 5-15 off his nine overs while at the other end Marcus Brown produced an amazing 0-4 off his nine being unlucky not to claim a wicket.

The screw was turned further by Andrew Paley (3-17), Barry McCormick (1-26) and Mark Ross (1-28) and Beckwithshaw were all out for 97.

Rawdon also produced a brilliant effort to dismiss Adel for 82 and then knock the runs off in just 16 overs. Kenrick Marshall's 2-2 and Neil Waite's 3-7 tore the heart out of the Adel innings which was held together by Ian Jones' 26.

Despite losing Marshall without scoring Rawdon forged ahead and won with eight wickets in hand thanks to a superb 42 no from Mark Doyle and 26 no from Craig Walsh.

The final will be at Ilkley on Sunday, August 12.

A thrilling Birtwhistle Cup game that went right to the wire finished with Rawdon going into the final on August 5 at Adel.

There they will meet Guiseley who defeated Bilton.

Follifoot batted first and pulled themselves around from 53-5 with useful contributions from skipper Clarke (41no) and Ledger (27no). The addition of 64 runs in the closing seven overs saw 150 on the board at tea, and a sizeable crowd basked in the sun looking forward to the second innings.

The Rawdon supporters were soon looking the other way as Ledger and Mayes ripped through their top order to leave the visitors floundering on 55-6.

Gary Walker (55no) stood firm however and attempted to get Rawdon within striking distance. Two 30 run partnerships took the score to 119 but with eight wickets down Follifoot were on top.

Almost immediately, tragedy struck as Walker dislocated his shoulder completing a quick single and the game was held up for some time as an ambulance took him off to hospital.

With the last pair at the crease a home win looked inevitable. Jimmy Hill and Patel took the singles offered, and with one over left required eight to win. A single off the first ball put Patel on strike and after two dot balls he smashed an enormous six into the woods at cow corner.

A scrambled single, with a forlorn run out attempt, came with the next ball and those Rawdon fans could look once more.

Guiseley batted first in their semi-final and made 190-6. Some solid early batting from Darren Smith (16), Graeme Wolfenden (29) and David Ross (33) was built on by Ian Colquhoun with an unbeaten 66.

Bilton soon lost wickets as Adrian Threapleton and A Perring got to grips with things.

Bilton were reduced to 71-7 and despite A Kitchen's 51 they were dismissed for 119 with Perring finishing with 3-23, Threapleton with 2-15, Sean Yeates with 2-21, Ian Colquhoun with 2-42 and Steve Dickinson with 1-12.

The Waddilove Cup final will again be sponsored by H B Clark of Keighley (Mitchell Inns) and the Birtwhistle Cup final by Communisis PLC of Leeds.

Wickets will be pitched at 2 pm in both games.
