THERE was no drama this time in the replayed Wynn Cup semi-final as holders Haworth cantered through to the final of the competition.

Last week the two sides were involved in a dramatic tie when Skipton CI, needing six off the last two balls to win, hit a four and then grabbed a single but were run out scampering for the winning run.

Playing at Bradley, the holders made their intentions clear as they rattled up 207 for four in their 45 overs.

Damian Rowell was the chief tormentor for CI as he scored 104 after an early wicket went down. Teaming up with brother Jamie, the second wicket put on 131 runs to take the game out of CI's reach and when Richard Powell and Richard Godden came together for the fifth wicket they put in some lusty blows, Godden finishing unbeaten on 34 as the innings finished on 207 for four.

Facing such a daunting total, CI were never really in the hunt and only 18 runs were on the board with three men back in the pavilion.

Mark Chisnall's 24 was the only resistance and CI were all out for 77, Godden finishing with four for 24.

Oakworth now await Haworth in the final on August 19.

Haworth's second string did not fare so well in their Cowling Cup semi-final when they played Thornton at Carleton.

Only two players, Glen Ogden (22) and Adam Balderstone (16) reached double figures as they were knocked over for a modest 62.

Anthony Giles, who left his sick bed to play, bowled superbly to finish with seven wickets for a mere 17 runs in his allotted 12 overs.

For Thornton, Tim Gates set off like an express train. He clattered 33 of the 39 scored for the first wicket before his bails were sent flying.

But that knock had put Thornton in control and despite a couple of hiccups, they cantered to a seven wicket win.

At Glusburn there was a keen scrap between Embsay and Long Lee. The Keighley side, batting first, lost a quick wicket but then recovered to 107 for two.

Then the wickets fell alarmingly as the score crept to 138 for eight before John Tetley hit a couple of mighty sixes in an unbeaten 24 to take Long Lee to 163. Brian Portlock was the top scorer with 54 as John Metcalfe took five for 47 and Andy Bell three for 25.

Embsay's innings followed a similar pattern early on and at 62 for three with 25 overs gone, it was anybody's match as youngster Simon Doane joined the experienced John Tetley in keeping the batsmen quiet.

David Barrett then joined Brian Hodgson at the crease and set about the bowling with relish.

Hodgson fell for 39 with the score on 138 and Barrett finally perished for 63 with the score on 160 and Embsay almost home and dry. Another wicket did fall but John Metcalfe smashed the ball to the boundary for a four wicket win.

This sets up a mouth watering final on August 12 at Cononley as Thornton try to gain revenge for their last meeting with Embsay in a final which they lost agonisingly by just three runs.
