City certainly had a lovely day, the day they went to Bangor.

It was a stroll in the sunshine at Clandeboye Park this afternoon against a side who don't even play in the top division in Northern Ireland.

The gulf in class was obvious from the moment Gareth Whal-ley lashed City in front with a free-kick after 16 minutes.

Whalley struck the opening blow of a three-goal flurry in the space of ten minutes as the Bantams roared forward at will.

Robbie Blake got the second virtually straight from the kick-off after being given time and space to turn on to his right foot and pick his spot from the corner of the penalty area.

And Ashley Ward, who ruled the airwaves during the first half, got his reward with a third from the penalty spot after Whalley had been sent tumbling by Bangor's Philip Kanell.

The 100 travelling fans in the 550-strong crowd were enjoying the sight of City among the goals - but the most significant moment of such an easy victory was the emergence of David Wetherall after half-time.

Wetherall came on for his first match since his major groin operation at the end of last season on a bone-hard pitch where the ball bobbled up throughout.

The surface was more demanding than the opponents but it was a significant step along the road to recovery as he targets a full return in a fortnight's time when City kick-off the proper stuff against Barnsley.

In comparison with the first half, the second was as flat as the atmosphere at the seaside ground with City content to play keep ball while Bangor just worked to keep the score down.

It looked as if they would succeed until City struck one final blow with less than a minute remaining as Ward rolled in his second goal of the afternoon.

Another clean sheet, another convincing victory. They now head to Portadown on Monday to round off a tour that should have done wonders for team morale.
