A group of Bradford University scientists are swapping their test-tubes for trainers for a 24-hour sponsored event to raise money for the Cancer Research Campaign.
The team of ten cancer scientists from the University of Bradford's Cancer Research Unit are taking part in the Relay for Life, a team event to raise funds for the charity.
The Relay for Life requires a team of six to ten friends, family members or work colleagues to camp out at the Thornes Park Athletics Stadium, Wakefield.
The members will camp out at the stadium overnight and then take it in turns to walk, run, or hop around the track.
The Cancer Research Campaign's Events Fundraiser, Peter Crampton, who is organising the event, said: "The great thing about Relay for Life is that it really is an event for everyone and it is a lot of fun.
"It's certainly not a fitness test and is suitable for all ages and abilities.
"While you're not on the track there'll be lots of entertainment, music and games to enjoy and plenty of food available."
David Swaine, experimental officer at the unit and team captain of the team Active CRU, said: "It's nice to be part of something worthwhile that involves all of us from the unit, from students to lecturers and clinicians."
Saurajyoti Basu, a student in the urology department at Bradford Royal Infirmary, said: "We do drug development research and this event will put us more in touch with people and will involve us directly with fundraising so that we can get a feel for what raising money can be like.
"It's also an opportunity for us to rekindle our team spirit."
The first and last laps of the track are completed by cancer survivors and there will be a candle-lighting ceremony during the night.
The event will be held from Friday, September 7 to Saturday, September 8.

The Cancer Research Unit, where members of Active CRU are based, hosts state-of-the art cancer research laboratories built with funding from the Cancer Research Campaign and the University of Bradford, which opened on July 12.
