Bradford's would be council house buyers have increased by nearly 600 per cent. since a sales campaign began five months ago. Between March and June, 690 tenants in the Metropolitan district applied to buy their homes, compared with 117 between November last year and February this year. The council's sales caravan and its staff are playing a big part in the drive and it is moving to Keighley.

There is a critical shortage of fuel in Bradford, said the city's fuel overseer, Mr. J.W. Pratt, today. There was a real scarcity of briquettes. " Heaven knows where the household coal is going," said Mr. Pratt.
