Detectives investigating the Bradford riots have recovered a loaded gun and ammunition from an empty house in Bradford.

Officers carrying out the search of the property in Girlington also found tools looted from a DIY store and other property stolen during the night of violence.

Inquiries began work today to trace the owner of the revolver - found with a tin of ammunition - as well as the occupier of the house.

The discovery came as Detective Chief Superin-tendent Max McLean, the officer heading the probe, revealed his team had received more than 350 calls offering help in identifying suspected rioters.

A special incident room has been flooded with calls after the Telegraph & Argus published 20 mugshots of people suspected of taking part in violence. Police had taken the images from footage filmed by officers during the disturbances on July 7.

Det Chief Supt McLean said he was "delighted" with the response which came through telephone calls and around 40 e-mails. More arrests were expected to be made this week, he added.

Four people had also given themselves up to officers after the pictures were released. They were all arrested for public-disorder offences and released on police bail while inquiries continued.

Det Chief Supt McLean said that 20 more pictures would be released later this week and more could follow after that.

The search was made at the house in Girlington at 6.30am on Saturday where tools, a hedge cutter and other equipment stolen from a store in Manningham during the riot were found.
