Matt Clarke is pleading for Bradford City to stick a price on his head and end his transfer deadlock.

The cold-shouldered keeper has been linked with a move to half a dozen clubs since going on the list in December. But he claims that potential deals are stalling because City will not officially name their asking fee.

Clarke replaced Gary Walsh for half an hour of last night's 2-2 draw at Portadown, letting in a late equaliser in the final game of City's Northern Ireland tour. It was his first Bantams outing for seven months as he waits impatiently to get away.

Clarke said: "The fee has been the stumbling block from day one. Figures have been touted round and some clubs are being quoted different prices to others but nobody will come out and say exactly what they want.

"I can't get my head round why it has gone on this long. It's just so frustrating and I can't see how it's doing anyone any good.

"I need to be playing first-team football and there is no point in the club keeping a player who isn't going to feature. When I made my decision to go, I couldn't see myself being in this situation now but the club have got a hold on me because I'm under contract.

"I'm not on ridiculous wages like some of the boys so they don't have to move me on. But it will come to a stage eventually where they are going to lose money on me.

"Bradford got me for free and they could easily get £1.5 million for me now and make a profit but for some reason they want more.

"My hands are tied and I just come in here and work hard in training. I have to keep going as if it could happen tomorrow or still drag on.

"The lads have been great here even though they know my future's not at Bradford.

"I'm really frustrated but I've got to bite my lip and get on with it."

Clarke enjoyed a successful loan spell at Bolton last season, claiming six cleansheets in ten games, but they followed up with a low offer that was laughed off.

Everton, Charlton, Tottenham, Cry-stal Palace and Wolves have also made enquiries as well as ambitious Premiership newboys Fulham who, Clarke claims, were scared off by a demand for £4 million.

He said: "I was in California on holiday and got a call from my agent saying that Fulham had made an approach and everything was sorted.

"But then he rung back three days later saying that Bradford wanted £4 million and so it had gone off the boil.

"Fulham then came back again saying they wanted a month's trial to look at me - but I don't believe I have to prove myself to anyone after five years doing my stint in the Premiership at Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford. What more should I have to do?

"I was flattered with Fulham's interest but I'm not going out on loan again especially at the beginning of the season. There is no point in going elsewhere for a month and then being back here again at square one.

"I need to get away and it's surely in Bradford's interests to move me on. Something has definitely got to happen.

"I don't even mind going to another First Division club as long as it means that I am the first choice keeper playing regular football. But First Division sides probably can't afford what Bradford would want for me."
