Bradford's most senior detective has praised the public for their support in helping to identify 20 people wanted in connection with the Bradford riots.

As a result of the photograph appeal on Friday eight men have already surrendered themselves to police and been arrested for violent disorder.

They have now been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Chief Superintendent Max McLean said he was confident that officers now had the identities of all 20 men shown on the photographs

He said: "My appeal to the remaining 12 men is to contact any police officer before we come looking for them."

Det Chief Supt McLean also revealed that detectives from the riot incident room travelled to Manchester Airport yesterday after a tip-off that Bradford men wanted in relation to the disorder were intending to flee the country for Pakistan.

Nobody was detained but a continuing liaison is being maintained between police and airport officials.

More than 350 calls have been received by the incident room. The vast majority were from Bradford but they did include calls from the South of England and people on holiday abroad who had seen the photographs in the national press.

Det Chief Supt McLean, said: "I would like to personally thank all callers who have helped identify these men. There was a high proportion of calls from the Asian community in Bradford, which is very encouraging. It is clear that these offenders have no hiding place."

A further 20 photographs are due to be published on Friday.
