The Trans-Pennine run, with a record entry of over 200 vehicles, has become the premier annual event of the Historic Commercial Vehicle Club of Great Britain. The 64-mile run from Manchester to Harrogate organised by the club's Yorkshire section, was routed through Halifax and Bradford with a stop at Harry Ramsden's at Guiseley for a fish and chip lunch.

A limited number of telephone subscribers in the Bradford central area are to be given direct dialling facilities to Leeds, Halifax, Bingley and Keighley. An official of the Bradford Telephone Exchange told the Telegraph & Argus today that the new scheme, which comes into operation on September 1, will initially affect about 450 of the larger firms in the city. Subscribers will first dial a code and then the appropriate number, and the firms affected are those whose numbers start with the digit "2".
