A Bradford-based sports company has come up with a product so popular it is struggling to keep up with world-wide demand.
Skorpion Sports has developed an innovative indicator glove for cyclists that contains flashing lights designed to increase visibility and improve safety.
The product has received rave reviews in both the specialist and national press, which in turn has generated over £500,000 worth of orders.
The business, which has its manufacturing base in Pakistan, is run by managing director Mohammed Faiz and his small sales, design and marketing team in Manningham.
When orders for the new glove started coming in from across Europe and the US, Mr Faiz realised he needed to step-up the UK side of the operation, so he contacted Business Link for West Yorkshire.
He explained: "The market for this product is phenomenal and we know that the customers are out there. We've had excellent support from Business Link who are working with us to open new markets, and they've helped us to produce brochures and attend exhibitions.
"We now need to manage the whole process, including storage and distribution of products, from the UK."
The company, which was set up in 1995, is now talking to Business Link about finding the best local warehouse facilities to store its increasing volumes of stock.
Specialising in making gloves for all kinds of sports, Skorpion has enjoyed rapid growth, with its turnover rising from £32,000 in its first year to more than £2 million in 2000.
Mr Faiz is confident the trend will continue.
He said: "We're looking to develop more products and expand into markets in Europe and the USA.
''Our goal is to generate long-term business. The demand is there and we need to be there.''
