A businessman banned from contacting his former wife for 99 years has been given a suspended prison sentence for harassing her again.

Keighley magistrates made Malcolm Bright, of Old Silk Mill, East Morton, the subject of the order preventing him contacting his wife, Frances, or his daughter.

Last March he was put on probation for a year for breaching that order and ordered to do community service, but just a month later he began harassing his wife again.

Prosecutor Gerald Hendron said Mrs Bright estimated she had received thousands of telephone calls from her husband as well as visits to her new home.

"Neighbours heard him calling Mrs Bright a slag and whore while he was in the street," said Mr Hendron.

On one occasion Bright banged so hard on his wife's door that he cracked it and another time he waited for her to return home before shouting at her in her car and shaking the vehicle with her inside.

Mr Hendron gave details of four specific breaches of the restraining order including abusive calls to his wife and a confrontation in pub.

Bright, who owns a haulage business, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to charges of harassment and breaching the restraining order.

Bright's 12-month sentence was suspended for two years.
