WHEN the annual Ilkley Open Tennis Tournament got underway this week local hopes were pinned on John Chesworth in the evening singles.
He and fellow former Ilkley member Martin Parkes were both making progress at the time of going to press. Both are currently enjoying scholarships in the United States.
A big draw for the OHS/Skipton Building Society sponsored tournament was former Wimbledon star Roscoe Tanner who went into the draw for the Girobank men's open singles on Wednesday.
Tanner was to run a coaching clinic for Ilkley youngsters today, Thursday.
Georgina Jackson won the ladies' handicap event while Ilkley's Sam Horrix and Ben Murray Potts were progressing well in the Under-12 and Under-14 events.
Play is held every day and this year there is no entry charge. Just go along and enjoy the tennis. The finals of the Girobank events will take place on Saturday afternoon with the ladies singles on first at 1 pm. to be followed by the men's singles and then doubles.
