Proud day ...Gala queen Amie Proud surrounded by her entourage, from left, Haleigh Smith, Alice Firth, George Currie, Sarah Smout and Rebecca Saggers
THREE village stalwarts were 'thanked for the memories' at this year's Cowling Gala. Muriel Gallagher, Brian Garside and Rita Stead who passed away this year were commemorated in the opening speech by Mrs Gallagher's son, Malcolm and in the programme of events.

Visitors enjoyed the traditional egg throwing competition, a tug of war and maypole dancing. Arts and crafts in the marquee attracted a good standard of entries.
