A businessman claims giant shrubs are turning a city centre car park into a drugs den.

Tim Walker, 37, who runs a recording business says the "jungle" around Snowden Street car park, off Manningham Lane, is hiding people who take drugs, break into cars, and dump rubbish.

But he said a call to Bradford Council to chop down the shrubs simply resulted in a call by a workman who "trimmed a few leaves" off the bushes.

Mr Walker, who lives in Clayton, said: "The problem here has been literally growing and growing for quite some time now.

"The area has become a haven for crime over the last couple of years and I believe the Council is to blame.

"There is now an enormous wall of foliage separating the car park from all the major roads which pass Snowden Street.

"This area is virtually invisible from the rest of town.

"As a result, drug users and drug dealers have been frequenting the area because they think they will not be seen.

"Used needles are being left around and fly tipping is rife. Car crime here has been escalating and people who work at night in the area fear for their safety."

Although the Council had promised to do substantial work, only the minimum had been carried out, he claimed.

A Bradford Council spokes-man said: "His complaints about the height of the shrubs and trees have been passed on to a senior officer in recreation.

"After further investigations, it has been decided that in the interests of community safety, more work will be done to open up views into the car park."
