A yob got more than he bargained for when he tried to sabotage a peaceful game of bowls.
Disabled Ken Bedford, a player for more than 40 years, got the better of the youth in a wrestling match - although he lost his false leg in the process.
After the commotion ended the remainder of the game, at the Lister Park greens in Bradford, was played under 'police guard'.
The 57-year-old grandfather from Wrose, pictured, said the drama occurred when his team, Salts Sports, met with the Listers side on Wednesday.
He said: "A gang of youths was hanging around and, as we began the last game, one of them walked onto the middle of the green towards us.
"He had waited until we started - it was clear he was just trying to disrupt the games.
"I asked him to leave the green but he wouldn't and started becoming abusive."
After repeated requests, Mr Bedford decided to take drastic action.
"I threw my cup of tea at him. Most of it missed - I think a spot went on his t-shirt," he said.
As the youth, described as Asian and in his early twenties, became more threatening Mr Bedford went to the club hut to telephone park rangers for assistance.
"I came out and he started threatening what he was going to do with me," said Mr Bedford.
"So I threw another cup of tea and he swung for me, knocking off my glasses."
He said both of them ended up on the ground wrestling.
"I managed to get on top of him. But then my false leg came loose and, as he stood up, I found that I couldn't."
Now surrounded by angry bowlers, the youth, with his friends looking on, fled the scene.
Mr Bedford, who had half his leg amputated after a car smash four decades ago, said: "I think he was surprised I stood up to him and fought back. But I think he was even more shocked when my false leg came off."
Mr Bedford said he was lucky it happened because the attack could have been more serious.
The police arrived on the scene within minutes and officers stood by while the players finished their games.
A police spokesman confirm-ed officers were called to the Lister Park Bowling Green in Park View Road, Heaton, at 8.33pm on Wednesday to a report of youths causing trouble.
