The use of hosepipes is to be banned in Bradford, it was decided today when the Yorkshire Water Authority's chairman, Mr John Brown,
said: "We have held out as long as we could but I think that now is the right time to apply the ban". It is expected that the ban will operate from the end of this week - "48 hours after advertisements in local papers," said an authority spokesman.

A suitability test for council house applicants, which would take into account the question of whether they had been evicted for not paying their rent, were dirty or verminous, or had previously damaged houses, may be introduced in Bradford. Ald. Joseph Foster, chairman of the Corporation Estates Sub-committee, said he was trying to operate such a test.
