Masked raiders drove a stolen car at a terrified security guard before speeding off from a Bingley supermarket.
Police investigating the attempted robbery outside the town's Safeway supermarket today appealed for witnesses. The Securicor guard hit by the car is in hospital with injuries to his leg and arm.
The would-be robbers struck in Chapel Walk, at the back of the store, at 3.40pm yesterday as the Securicor employee walked back to his van from the store.
Sergeant Hilary Baxter, of Shipley police, said the green Honda Civic estate, registration T959 ELN - which was stolen in the Baildon area last week - had been driven straight at the guard.
He said: "Nothing has been taken but the security guard received leg and arm injuries and was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary. The car also hit a parked Vauxhall Vectra which has been damaged. There were four people in the car - three had masks on and the driver was a white man with short dark hair.''
He said a witness had reported seeing one person get out of the car before the vehicle did a U-turn and sped off.
Sergeant Baxter said the getaway car then sped off up Ferncliffe Road before being dumped and set on fire at the bottom of a lane opposite the junction with Fernbank Drive.
The gang are believed to have then made off in another vehicle.
Sergeant Baxter said: "We appeal for any witnesses, anyone who was in the area behind Safeway at about 3.40pm or anyone who has seen the car since last week to come forward.''
A spokesman for the West Yorkshire Metropolitan Ambulance Service (WYMAS) said a man had been taken by ambulance to Bradford Royal Infirmary with minor injuries.
Anyone with information is asked to call Keighley CID on (01535) 617085 or 617059.
