A Bradford trucker has failed in his latest attempt to escape from war-torn Kosovo.

Mick Rhodes, 40, of Wyke, tried to leave the country on Thursday night after being trapped there for two weeks when neighbouring country Macedonia closed its borders to British civilians.

Mr Rhodes had been delivering tank supplies to British troops serving in the United Nation's KFOR peace-keeping force when he became stranded.

The lorry-driver's wife, Bosnian-born Zorica Rhodes, said her husband had made another attempt to leave Kosovo but had been turned back by Macedonian troops.

She said: "They tried to get across the Macedonian border at 7.30pm UK time on Thursday night but were turned back again even though they had a KFOR vehicle at the front of the convoy and one at the back.

"Mick is really fed up. He just wants to get out and get home. "

The Telegraph & Argus reported on Thursday how Mr Rhodes, who works for Wigan-based freight firm Warisa, became stranded in Kosovo with 13 other lorry drivers and felt he was getting little support from the British Army to leave the country.

Mr Rhodes was due to be home last Thursday to celebrate his son Brano's sixth birthday but instead was living in his truck's cab in a military car park.
