A sixteen-year-old boy has been killed at a notorious accident blackspot - the sixth fatality there in less than a year.
The teenager was on his BMX bike when he was involved in the accident with a minicab late on Saturday night.
Luke Doyle was trapped under the Rover 200 mini-cab following the collision in Spen Lane near Gomersal.
Today his parents, Lynn and David, who live in nearby Shirley Road, were too distressed to talk about the tragedy.
But residents in Spen Lane are demanding immediate action is taken to make the road safer following the string of fatalities.
In June, Kirklees Council agreed to install three speed cameras costing £30,000 each in the road after a campaign by the Spen Lane Action Group.
But Tracey Brewer, Kirklees Council traffic manager, said the cameras would not be put in until December at the earliest.
She offered her deepest sympathy to the Doyle family but added that the Council's hands were tied because it had to go through the tendering process before the cameras could go up.
Today Spen Lane shopkeeper Manni Gill, who was one of those first on the scene at Saturday's accident, said residents feared the death toll could rise still further before the road was made safer.
Mr Gill had been smoking a cigarette outside his Spa store, which he runs with his wife Nin, when he saw a minicab from Cleckheaton Cars drive by shortly after 11pm.
"All I heard was tyres screeching," he said.
"I ran about 200 yards down from the shop towards the crash and I found the car was on top of the boy.
"He wasn't moving and I think the paramedics knew he wasn't going to make it.
"His BMX bike was 50 yards from the scene and his shoes were scattered either side of the road. I saw his cap lying somewhere else in the road. It was horrifying.
"I've got two young children of my own and I'm very worried for their safety."
Tabasur Rav, of Cleckheaton Cars, said the driver, whom he would not name, was on his way back to the office after completing a fare.
He said: "The driver is still very, very shocked. He was shivering and crying when he got back to the office.
"The police just sent him home and said he needed to rest before they spoke to him about the accident."
Inspector Roy Cutherbertson, of West Yorkshire Police, said officers from Dewsbury Road Traffic Unit were appealing for any witnesses to the accident to contact them.
He said: "The rider of the BMX pulled out of Woodlands Road into Spen Lane and was in collision with a motor vehicle travelling towards Cleckheaton.
"The lad was taken to Dewbsury District Hospital where his injuries proved to be fatal."
Last May two motorcyclists died in an accident with a bus in Spen Lane.
In September last year three teenagers died in a crash between a Vauxhall Corsa and a bus in the same road.
Anyone with information about Saturday's accident should call PC Carl Horsfall at Dewsbury Road Traffic Unit on (01924) 421046.
