TWO Skipton Brownies have been presented with bravery awards.

Ten-year-old Lucy Moore, a pupil at Water Street School, Skipton, and Rebecca Harrison, eight, of the Parish Church School, received the special awards on Wednesday night.

The two girls are both members of the 10th Skipton Dales Brownies, based at Christ Church.

Lucy is recovering from a recurring brain tumour, and Rebecca is recovering from acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

They received their awards from Angie Goddard, the Chief Commissioner for the North East of England Guide Association.

She paid tribute to the two youngsters, saying they had remained brave and cheerful Brownies despite their illnesses.

There was further praise from Brown Owl and District Commissioner Janet Denton.

She said: " We are all very proud of Lucy and Rebecca. They are a credit to the pack and an example to us all."

The presentation was held at a coffee evening, organised by the Brownies, to raise money for Candlelighters, a children's cancer charity based at St James' Hospital, Leeds. The event raised £376.
