A man accused of shooting a young couple outside a Bradford nightclub was seen in the area moments after the shooting, a Court heard.

Bradford police officers told the jury at Leeds Crown Court that Khawar Butt, 21, was spotted on CCTV coverage at the Phoenix Fina Petrol Station, Lister Hills Road, Bradford, at around 2.45am on November 27 last year.

Dane Barratt and his 17-year-old girlfriend at the time, Gemma Tuohey, were shot after they left the Planet Venus Club in City Road in the early hours of that Monday morning.

PC Richard Andrews, a former road traffic officer with Bradford Central, said he had frequently been in contact with the accused.

He said: "I identified the footage as the man I know as Khawar Butt. I am 100 per cent confident of that."

PC Jane Hill, also a Bradford traffic officer, said she was sure the images on the video were that of Butt, of Sandford Road, Bradford.

Earlier, Ashley Windsor, an expert in the examination of video footage, told the court he was up to 85 per cent positive the image - which the police officers confirmed as Butt - was similar to that of a man shown on other footage given to him by the police.

Dave Bristo, an expert in technology relating to mobile telephones, told the court a handset recovered by police was also in the Listerhills area at the time Butt was there.

Butt is charged with either two counts of attempted murder or two counts of maliciously wounding with intent, and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Dean Carden, 22, of Leeds, has already pleaded guilty to maliciously wounding the couple with intent and possession of a fire arm with intent to endanger life.

The hearing continues.
