CAFFEINE drinkers in Wharfedale helped stage the biggest coffee morning in the world to raise money for a cancer charity.
Cups were raised on Friday at churches, clubs and businesses across the region including Ilkley Library, Bramhope Methodist Church, Salem United Reformed Church in Burley-in-Wharfedale and Skipton Building Society in Ilkley, as part of the national event organised by Macmillan Cancer Relief.
Elizabeth Collins, who helped out at the Burley event, said it had been a resounding success. "It was a good day and about £190 was raised," she said.
Ilkley Library also did a roaring trade in cups of coffee, tea and biscuits, raising more than £120. "
It went very well," said librarian Caroline Brown. "It was a one-off, not something we would normally do but we found it was so popular it went on until about 6pm."
Staff at Skipton Building Society also raised an impressive £95.
Residents of Lane Fox Court sheltered housing complex, Ivegate, Yeadon, who raised a total of £117. And shoppers in Otley, Yeadon and Horsforth were surprised to be invited into a travel agent's for a coffee. Altham's Travel raised more than £100
The money raised nationwide will go towards helping Macmillan provide services for cancer patients.
