THE killer of Leeds teenager Leanne Tiernan may have been spotted dumping her body in woodland near Otley in August.

Police investigating the murder of the 13-year-old have announced they have new leads in the case - including a sighting by a retired couple of a man trying to lift a large, floral-patterned bundle from his car.

Leanne's body was found wrapped in a floral duvet cover in woodland near the Warren Point car park, Lindley Wood, near Norwood, on Monday August 20. She had been missing since last November.

The officer leading the investigation, Det Supt Chris Gregg, said police wished to trace two cars seen near the site in August - one on Wednesday, August 1 and one on Monday, August 13.

In the first sighting, a couple driving on the B6451 saw two men manoeuvring a bundle across the bonnet of a red car, then moving it through the grass with their feet. The car was said to have a lot of chrome trim, and both men were described as being in their 20s, of average build, and casually dressed.

Police are also trying to trace a man spotted as he drove towards Harrogate on the same road between 11am and 11.30am on Monday August 13. They saw a man lifting what looked like a loose bundle of rags, which the female witness thought was a pair o flowery curtains.

The man was white, stocky, 5ft 10in tall, mid 40s, with grey hair, wearing a casual shirt and trousers.

The sighting was reported to police before descriptions of the flowery duvet in which Leanne's body was wrapped, was released to the public.
