Adel Firsts 1

Ben Rhydding 2nds 5

Ben Rhydding Men's Second XI trounced Adel in Yorkshire League Division One.

Set pieces were once again critical with Hatfield (2), Laxton and Horsman emphatically converting four short corner goals. The fifth goal was expertly finished by promising youngster Musgrave.

The one disappointment of an otherwise excellent display was the hamstring injury sustained by tall sweeper French.

It remains to be seen how Rhydding manage without the influential defender.

Scarborough Ladies 0

Ben Rhydding Seconds 4

THIS was the second league game of the season for Ben Rhydding Ladies Seconds and this great performance will give the team lots of confidence for the forthcoming games.

It took Rhydding a few minutes to settle into the game, during which time Scarborough had chances that were superbly dealt with by 'keeper Favell in the Rhydding goal. This period was short lived, however, as Rhydding began to dominate the game.

Prolonged periods of pressure resulted in several short corners being awarded and it didn't take long before captain Demy Dowley put away a crisp strike from a neatly executed short corner routine. Scarborough had their chances and neat defending by Mannering, Eldridge and Oates kept Rhydding in front. It was important for Rhydding to increase their lead to secure the game.

They did this early in the second-half when right back Eldridge pushed up and, after an excellent display of skill from Hayley Fitzgerald, Eldridge clinically put away the second goal. The third goal soon

came when youngster Panteli pierced the defence and hit a thunderous strike from the edge of the area, leaving the keeper with no chance.

Rhydding were now well and truly in the driving seat after some fantastic displays of distribution from French and Dowley. This led to the fourth goal from Jennings who sweetly slotted the ball past the 'keeper.

Otliensians Seconds 1

Dewsbury Ladies 1

ON Saturday Otliensians Second XI's league fixture was against Dewsbury Ladies, always a closely fought match, this game was no different. Otliensians started well and attacked Dewsbury's goal with skill and determination.

A well practised move by left-wing Claire Brook led the way to Otliensians scoring the first goal. Claire crossed the ball into the circle and it was collected by an agile Maggie Joce, who pushed it into the path of Ros Stringwell. She struck the ball into the back of the net.

Both teams continued to attack but were unable to break the solid defence on both sides. Jane Girt and Stella Stenton were particularly prominent in Otliensians' defence.

In the second-half all credit to Dewsbury as they relentlessly attacked and equalised mid-way through the second-half. Otliensians tried in vain to go in front again but time was running out.

In the closing minutes Dewsbury were awarded a penalty flick but failed to capitalise and Otliensians, mainly due to lack of fitness and the absence of any substitutes. Player-of-the-Match points were awarded to Jane Girt and Stella Stenton.

l Saturday's match is against Colne Valley Ladies at Storthes Hall, Huddersfield. (Meet in Otley at 11.45am).
