Gareth Grant's loan move to Darlington has been held up by a slight knee injury.
The Third Division club are keen to borrow the Bradford City striker for a month and Grant, 21, did his chances no harm with a lively display in a reserve game at Grimsby on Wednesday.
But the Quakers are delaying making a move until they are satisfied Grant, who set up a goal in that game, is fully fit.
Darlington assistant manager Mick Tait said: "Gareth has been carrying a knee injury for a while. We will have to see how it is before we make a decision."
Grant, who scored in a rare outing against Darlington in last season's Worthington Cup, was back training with City at Woodhall yesterday.
Players are allowed to appear in two reserve trial games for another club before a decision has to be made. So Grant could still play in the next Darlington reserve game against Bury on Wednesday before they make their minds up.
City assistant boss Billy Brown said: "Gareth's agent has been in touch but we haven't heard anything from Darlington.
"We are willing to let him go on loan. But he had a knee knock which kept him out for a couple of weeks and although he trained fine with us, they obviously feel it needs to be checked out first."
City's game at Norwich on Saturday, November 10 will not be rearranged because of England.
The Football League gave clubs the chance to switch kick-offs so they would not clash with the friendly international against Sweden at Old Trafford, but Norwich decided against a move.
