A business which "like Topsy, had just growed" was selling birds and tropical fish although it did not have planning permission to do so, a public enquiry at Shipley heard yesterday. Bradford Metropolitan Council also claimed that the Homescape Garden Centre Ltd, of Dockfield Road, Shipley, was selling many other goods not covered by the approvals which allowed it to sell building materials and garden plants and requisites.

Bradford's fire chief Mr W Thomas has been asked by the Fire Services Committee to prepare a scheme for zoning the city for susceptibility to fire in a possible air raid. A new method of zoning which was tried out in Birmingham gave a clear and valuable picture of war-time fire risk of different parts of the city.
