Jim Jefferies is refusing to panic after City's fourth defeat in five games.

Jefferies said: "That's probably the best we've played for the last three or four matches. The scoreline sounds like we've been well beaten but it flattered them.

"You couldn't criticise us for lacking effort. We beat Grimsby here the other week but only really played for 25 minutes in that game - we were much better on Saturday.

"We've only played 11 games so just a quarter of the season has gone. We feel we should have a few more points and have thrown away two or three games.

"But I just feel if we can get a decent win under our belts we'll be off and running again."

City are now ten points behind Wolves and face three away games in the next eight days, starting with tomorrow night's long haul to in-form Crystal Palace.

Chairman Geoffrey Richmond has hinted that money could be available after Christmas if City are in a challenging position.

Jefferies said: "You do like to bring in one or two but we don't have the option to do that at the moment. Hopefully at the turn of the year we will have that opportunity.

"Of course I would like to make changes but most of our money was spent last year and you have to accept that. We've got a lot of good players here but we need to get more strength in depth.

"We gave everything against Wolves but we don't have the youngest squad. We put a lot of effort into the first hour but it took its toll and later on we lost that bit of edge because we haven't got the legs to cover the pitch."

City skipper Stuart McCall said: "If you analyse the game there was nothing in it. But without creating a lot, we've looked a lot more solid than the last couple of weeks."
