Brighouse 5

Otley Town 2

After the high of last week when all three teams won their respective cup games Otley Town hit a low with all three teams losing. The first and second team were up against last years league winning sides and the third team were up against a team just above them in the table.

Due to an ever increasing injury list Town fielded three understrength teams on Saturday.

Brighouse, last years league and cup winners, once again proved to be the strongest side that Town have played in this division. Brighouse have recently been upgrading their facilities, including the addition of floodlights, with a view to promotion to the North Counties East League.

Despite the unflattering score line, Town for the second season running, travelled to Brighouse and gave a good performance, despite two of the home players players Glen Lee and Antoni Short scoring twice.

Brighouse took a shock two-goal lead before Town could settle but Town came back strongly and from a corner Ian Wolfenden pulled one back.

Brighouse were lucky to stretch their lead again when Wolfenden was kicked from behind and pulled to the ground. This was amazingly overlooked by the referee. The offender crossed for a teammate to score.

In the second-half Otley were the stronger and Brighouse were stretched. Their goalkeeper had a very busy time.

Pushing forward is always a dangerous time, leaving players at the back exposed. After a breakaway Martin Abel brought down a forward for Andy Kenton to score from the spot. Town pulled one back when after a bad pass back to the 'keeper Dominique Blair won the ball to score easily with a tap in. Brighouse finished the game off when they scored from another breakaway.

Town's reserve team suffered from the knock on effect of injuries and were well beaten by last season's champions.

Losing players to the first team and leading scorer Steven Boddy, who is injured, Town struggled.

Their only goal came when a defender cleared the ball onto the legs of the on-coming Shaun McMurrough.

l On Saturday, Otley Town Reserves are at home to Kirby Malzeard. (Kick-off 2.30pm).

Otley Town A 1

Town continued their 'away-day' blues with a defeat that the scoreline suggests was an easy win for their opponents but that was not the case.

Town could not field their strongest team but were a match for their opponents playing probably the better football. Town's defence was caught napping and Styans opened the scoring.

Town battled back and Alderson, playing despite two broken ribs, levelled the scores.

l Town visit Masham on Saturday (Meet 12. 45 pm).
