Burley Trojans 4
BURLEY Trojans got their title campaign back on track on Saturday, winning at a canter against a disappointing Wetherby side.
The home side look in disarray and, having been fortunate to survive in the Premier Division last year after finishing next to bottom, look set for another struggle.
In a one-sided first-half Trojans created a string of chances with Stuart Dibb, restored to the striking role in which he made his name, going closest.
Young Tom McDermott, enjoying a rare start, looked full of tricks on the left wing, and skipper Nick Quaife almost profitted from his through pass. Kieren Hanogue headed over from a McDermott corner as Trojans laid seige to the Wetherby goal and their reward finally arrived on 27 minutes. Hargreaves' long clearance was touched on by Connolly and Dibb raced clear to shoot beyond Towse.
Trojans lost McDermott with a recurrence of an ankle injury but his replacement Oliver Barrand slotted in well on his first team debut as the visitors continued to dominate. Lofthouse hit the side netting and a post while Barrand's shot was spilled and Quaife shot skywards.
With only a one goal lead there was always a danger that Wetherby might find a way back. Their struggle became even more desperate when Airey, dismissed in the corresponding fixture last season, again saw red as he hauled Connolly back.
Two goals in a minute made the game safe for the visitors. Firstly Man-of-the-Match Dibb squared for Lofthouse to lash home and then when Dibb was fouled, Connolly converted from the penalty spot.
Leading scorer Connolly wrapped things up from close range.
Trojans have no fixture on Saturday.

Harold Styans Res 3
Trojans Reserves survived a spirited fightback from Styans to record their fourth consecutive win and leapfrog their opponents into a top three place in Division Two.
The home side established a four goal cushion in the first-half but saw this whittled away before manager Gary Shankland calmed their nerves with a killer fifth goal late on.
Skipper Ian McKain opened the scoring with a bullet header and five minutes later newcomer Stuart Copley opened his account. Two goals in a minute from young Mark Carroll put Trojans in command. Man-of-the-Match was Copley.
l On Saturday the Reserves entertain Helperby (2.30pm).
