While Guiseley are continuing their search for much wanted goalscorers they continue to come across players they have let slip through their hands who are scoring regularly for other clubs.

Matt Alberry is one such case over at Harrogate Town while on Saturday it was Scott Jackson who scored his 50th goal for Ossett Town as they returned to the top of the UniBond League First Division.

Still crippled by injuries Town player-manager Gary Brook was pleased to welcome back former Guiseley defender Paul Ryan who wa smaking his 50th start for Town. What a game Ryan had against his old club.

Ossett had the first chance as Matthew Smithard hit a deflected shot that flew past the post but twice in the opening 20 minutes Guiseley could have taken the lead.

On 12 minutes Neil Parsley floated a ball over Town's backline to meet the run of new signing Nicky Hey but as he shaped to shoot Paul Ryan produced a crucial block. Soon after Mark Stuart provided a pass for David Cooke who missed a good chance blazing well wide.

Guiseley had the ball in the the net as Kevin Newhouse slid a shot home but it was ruled out for off-side. Guiseley as ever were made to rue their missed chances.

On 21 minutes Town broke the deadlock. Chris Beaumont used his guile and strength to peel away from his marker and race clear but as he charged into the area full-back Simon Trevitt's reckless challenge conceded a penalty.

Leading scorer Jackson stepped up and although young 'keeper John Lamb got a hand on the ball he failed to keep it out.

Guiseley became frustrated and three of the panicky back four picked up yellow cards. This left Benn Gallagher, Matt Daly and Gary Strodder walking on a knife edge. Paul Sykes and then Ryan Gray headed over for Town and a good passing move ended with Jackson hitting a tremendous shot from 25 yards which hammered against the bar.

With a lack lustre Guiseley under constant pressure they forged no real openings of note as Town dominated all phases. Just before half- time Town romped through a totally inept Guiseley defence to make it 2-0.

In what looked like a scene from some Brian Rix farce (although the Guiseley faithful failed to find it funny) Beaumont raced onto Smithard's pass, sailing past his marker before cutting inside.

Lamb came off his line in an attempt to block but although he didn't make contact Beaumont was put off and lost control. The ball ran through to Trevitt who only had to hammer it clear.

He tried and failed to control the ball allowing Sykes to steal possession and, with Lamb still out of position, slide a shot into the empty net.

In the dying seconds of the half Guiseley were denied the chance to reduce the arrears when Ryan made another well-timed last ditch tackle to disposs Cooke.

After the break a sweeping move featuring Hey and Cooke saw Guiseley go close with a Kevin Newhouse shot into the side netting but for the next 20 minutes it was all Ossett.

On 52 minutes Jackson should have made it 3-0 but Lamb spread himself to block and then twice in quick succession Beaumont hit shots straight at the 'keeper.

Beaumont then drew Lamb before squaring to Jackson but Daly made a timely block.

Parsley invited fellow midfielder Peter Sumner to leave the field with him as a double substitution was made with Simon Phillips, dropped to include Strodder, and Andrew Shuttleworth coming on.

Phillips went into the back four and as is usual when Guiseley are struggling up front Daly was pushed up. Cooke had a close range effort blocked following Newhouse's low centre.

Daly headed over from a Shuttleworth cross, Stuart hit an angled drive at the 'keeper and Cooke headed Trevitt's cross past the post as Guiseley looked to salvage a little pride at least.

Hey headed wide and Stuart fired over but it was the old old story for Guiseley. No goals, no points and no pride.

l On Saturday Guiseley travel to Belper Town and on Monday entertain Harrogate Town in the League Cup (7.45 pm).
