Pedestrians will have to use alternative routes as another phase of the Bingley Relief Road project gets underway.
The Treaclecock Alley underpass, forming a public right of way under the railway line to the south of Bingley Three Rise Locks, will close today.
It is scheduled to re-open on Monday, October 29.
Electricity cables will be diverted through the tunnel through a concrete trench.
The work has coincided with the school holidays to avoid disruption to schoolchildren who use the path.
Highways Agency project manager Peter Scally said: "The relief road project provides an opportunity to reduce the number of overhead power cables in the sensitive area of Three Rise Locks. Poor ground conditions mean it would have been difficult for Yorkshire Electricity to divert the cables in ducts under the railway - using the line of the existing underpass was considered to be the most viable option."
