Bingley Harrier Steve Green will be hoping his recent performances have clinched a place in the North of England team for tomorrow's Bradford 10k road race from the Richard Dunn Sports Centre.
The North of England team will start favourites for the inter-area match against teams from the South, the Midlands and Wales.
Green signalled his return to fitness with his recent performances in the Yorkshire and Northern road relays.
The men's line-up is expected to include Ian Hudspeth (Gateshead), Stewie Bell (Chester-le-Street), Steve Hepples (Loftus AC), Julian Moorhouse (Birchfield Harriers) and last year's runner-up Mike Openshaw (Birchfield).
The men will face stiff opposition from the Midlands, who look set to include Great North Run winner John Mutai, so it could be a terrific battle for the men's first prize of £1,000.
Bingley will also be represented in the North's women's team with Meryl Dodd. Birhan Dagne, who won the event two years ago in the FILA colours, is returning and will be favourite to pick up the £500 winner's cheque. The Bradford 10k is part of the FILA PB Grand Prix series and as this is the final race in the series for the year, the overall winners will also be decided.
To win additional prize money of £1,000 runners have to have competed in all three races in the series. Nick Jones (Tipton) currently heads the way in the men's series after totalling 59min 19sec for two races while Dagne leads the race for the women's prize on 67-58.
The route is from Rooley Avenue up to St Paul's Avenue down Reevey Road and then Park Avenue to Halifax Road. This circuit is repeated before finishing via Netherlands Avenue and Huddersfield Road back to the sports centre.
Entries are now closed for the main race and a field of around 550 is expected to line up at the sports centre for the 11am start.
There is still the chance though to take part in a 3km fun run in aid of the Marie Curie Bradford Appeal.
This race starts at 10.30am and all are welcome to take part from the age of ten years upwards, although children under ten can take part if accompanied by an adult.
