More than 100 Mirfield residents have voiced their concerns over proposals to build 300 new homes in the village.
Clough House Ltd is proposing to develop the site near the Hopton Junior School on Woodend Road.
Councillor Martyn Bolt, who called a public meeting along with Councillors Beverley Warby and Kathleen Taylor, said residents had a number of relevant objections to the development, including traffic congestion and education. "There was no intimation of a NIMBY attitude - they were raising points that were important," he said.
"Hopton School is oversubscribed already, and there are a number of parents who were not able to send their children to the school because it was full."
Due to the site's proximity to the River Calder, the Environment Agency is to carry out a flood risk assessment before planning application can go any further.
