Bradford 3, Hull YPI 0 - In their fourth Yorkshire League Division One fixture of the season, Bradford comfortably saw off newly promoted Hull YPI.
In the first seven to ten minutes the Bradford defence had to cope with a couple of menacing probes but Sarup Panesar and Iain Lettice handled it well.
Shortly after this the Bradford attack began to take shape supported well down the flanks with Sam Baxter and Nigel Lyster.
Steve Hodgson and Luther Brown narrowly failed to score before a penalty corner was put away by Baxter after the second rebound off the keeper.
Bradford pressed home their advantage but their over confidence was punished with a lightning counter attack. A long pass from the Hull defence found their right striker totally unmarked and goalkeeper Rob Terry had to make a commanding save in a one on one situation to keep his side ahead.
Following three corners in succession, Mark Hammond eagerly accepted the opportunity to score his first goal of the season, when Richard Harpin and Jaspal Panesar dummied the Hull keeper out of position before half-time.
Pace and movement found yawning gaps in the Hull defence in the second half and the visitors' keeper was called upon to make several good stops. Some superb stick work by Jaspal Panesar at the top of the circle took out two Hull defenders, his attempt was well saved by the keeper, but Harpin was on hand to follow up the rebound for his sixth goal in five games.
Five minutes later the senior member of Panesar family, Sarup gave a display of his former brilliance going on a solo run from midfield to eliminate six Hull players only to see his efforts go unrewarded.
It was a different story the following day when Bradford paid a visit to Hull YPI in the first round of the Yorkshire Cup and saw fortunes reversed with a 4-2 defeat.
Fielding a much-changed line-up with six regulars unavailable, the Bradford XI's stand-in players acquitted themselves well, but could not overcome two injuries just before half time.
Down to nine men and facing a 4-1 deficit, Bradford rallied, spurred on by Rob Terry's commanding performance in goal. Harpin added to Luther Brown's first goal, while Steve Hodgson failed to find an open net, and was unfortunate to see his penalty corner attempt in the 65th minute disallowed.
