It is exactly a year ago that the " Welcome Homes " foster parent recruitment campaign six week appeal within the Bradford district ended. It focused a lot of attention on the issue of fostering and encouraged interested people to learn about what was involved. Over 40 much-needed homes were subsequently approved. Although the range of homes was not as broad as had been hoped, the number recruited was impressive.

Mr. Douglas Hamilton, chairman of the Governors of Bradford Grammar School, criticised television as a time-waster when he spoke at last night's dinner of the Bradford Historical and Antiquarian Society in Bradford. Mr. Hamilton, who was proposing the toast to "The Society" referred to the "television aerials springing up like weeds from the rooftops". "I am thinking of the hundreds of hours wasted by young, healthy people who might be excercising their minds instead of having them entertained by a new novelty," he said.
