Pool 5

Park Row Associates 0

THIS was Pool's first cup game of the season and possibly the most one-sided game they are likely to be involved in.

The football in most parts was a joy to watch with every player being involved in neat build-up play and controlled passing.

However, the busiest person at the ground was spectator Jim Dennison, who spent most of the afternoon fetching back balls from the adjacent cricket ground and nearby gardens.

Pool eventually found the net on 30 minutes when a low drive from Graham was parried out by the 'keeper straight to Joyce, who made no mistake.

By half-time it was 3-0. Healey went on a mazey run and finished it with a hard drive in to the bottom left-hand corner, then Joyce grabbed his second of the game with another opportunist strike.

Two minutes into the second-half up popped Gez Studds with his first of the season, a stunning shot from 30 yards, which left everybody gasping in amazement.

It appeared the floodgates had finally opened but the expected rout just never happened. Time after time the ball was driven straight at the 'keeper or 50 yards either side or over him.

The goal of the game came ten minutes from time.

Denman and Graham, linking up, were on the right and the latter drove a low, hard cross to Ramsey, who volleyed home in an instant.

So Pool move into the next round knowing full well that other teams will not be as generous and chances that do arrive need to be driven home.

Match Point was shared by Healey and Dobson.

Wellington 1

Pool Reserves 3

WITH some new faces returning to the side, Pool entered this game full of confidence. It wasn't long before Pool took the lead, N Taylor scoring direct from a Myers corner.

Pool were controlling the midfield and playing some attractive football.

They were soon 2-0 up, Taylor and Evans combining well down the left, sending Howden clean through to finish neatly for his first.

Pool continued to play well and any Wellington threat was coolly dealt with by Firth and Shaw at the back.

Howden claimed his second with an excellent left foot strike before half-time.

In the second-half Pool relaxed but were still rarely threatened. Wellington did get a goal back but it was too little too late. Match Point was awarded to Nick Speight for a determined effort in the middle.

Pool A 2

Addingham Res 0

ON a mild, damp autumn afternoon, Pool A were determined to move up the league table.

A solid defence of Jones, senior Forbes, Stott and junior Forbes defended like knights in battle.

Shots from the opposition were kept to a minimum, with the vocal N Payne in nets having an easy afternoon.

The midfield engine of Groves, Keddle, Chatter and Chantler kept ticking over, stopping the Addingham midfield having time on the ball.

Endless running from Forrest and Smith up front kept the opposition under pressure but no chances were converted until the second-half.

Then Forrest hit a ten yard shot to ripple the back of the net. Pool's pressure then started to pay off. The injured hop-a-long Chandler connected with a junior Forbes cross to head home for Pool's second.

Match Point went to Tony Stott and Andy Forbes.
