James Hare has been lined up for a bill-heading crack at the welterweight Commonwealth belt.

Hare, from Roberttown, is set to face uncompromising Australian Julian Holland for the title at Barnsley's Metrodome Leisure Centre.

The date is still being finalised but insiders say it will take place either December 1 or 10 and Hare, from Roberttown, has been confirmed as the main event.

Huddersfield's Mark Hobson will be second on the bill with an eight-rounder while Bradford's impressive Jameel Hussain is also pencilled in.

But it is the perfect stage for Hare to showcase his talents against an opponent who has knocked out Shannan Taylor - something that WBC champion Shane Mosley, the undisputed king of the division, could not manage.

Holland, at 28 three years older than Hare, has won 26 of his 29 fights with 16 stoppages and features in the top ten rankings for both the WBC and IBF.

Hare's trainer Chris Aston said: "He's a big puncher who is strong over ten to 12 rounds. The fact he knocked out Taylor shows he is tough.

"But James has got the clever stuff and the moves to avoid getting into trouble. He has the ability to outbox him at range while staying away from the big shots."

Hare outpointed Frenchman John Ameline at the same venue last time out but got some flak for struggling to make the weight.

Aston said: "He beat a good fighter easily even with stomach cramps. But everyone thinks James is a bit special, possibly the best in Britain now, and he could have really excelled that night."
