The trial started at Leeds Crown Court this afternoon of an ex-Lord Mayor of Bradford, the former city architect and his secretary on charges of corruption involving John Poulson. The former Lord Mayor was Edward Newby, 63, of Leeds Road, Fagley, ex-city architect William Clifford Brown, 66, of Guiseley and his former secretary Mary Elizabeth Fenelon, 59, of Manningham. All three were later convicted and handed suspended sentences.

There seems to be a distinct possibility that floodlit games will be a big feature of Association football. There is nothing new in such games however, for one was played in Bradford some 70 years ago, in the early days of electricity.
