A 54-year-old man was robbed at knifepoint shortly after making a withdrawal from a town-centre cash machine.

The man was confronted by two youths - one wielding a knife - as he walked along Oakworth Road, Keighley, on Sunday evening.

He handed over £40, and the couple ran off. Police believe the victim had been followed from the cash machine.

Both suspects are white and aged about 17. One - a girl - was about 5ft 2ins/5ft 3ins tall, of slim build and was wearing a black woolly cap, with dark hair showing underneath it. She had blue jeans and a dark coloured zipped anorak.

Her accomplice was male, about 5ft 5ins, of medium build, and was wearing a green plastic-type raincoat.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at the bottom of Oakworth Road at around 8.30pm.

Det Chief Insp Roger Gasson said: "This happened in a well lit area at a time of the evening when there would probably be people around. We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or seen the two suspects following the man.

"The instance of people being followed from cash machines is rare, but I would urge the public to be vigilant . Put the cash away immediately, and if you think you are being followed raise the alarm."
