Shipley is holding its breath for a massive injection of cash into the town with three new developments.
A designer clothing and music shop is set to open in Wellcroft tomorrow and could be followed by a cafe bar at the same site next year.
And national chain Clinton Cards is seeking to move into empty premises in Market Square, while Ilkley-based developer Mitre Estates is seeking permission to demolish a shop on Kirkgate - formerly occupied by Jubilee Outreach Yorkshire - and build a retail unit almost three times bigger.
News of the three proposed developments - which coincides with JD Wetherspoons' £1.5 million conversion of Victoria House on the corner of Market Square and Kirkgate into a pub - was hailed as a boost for Shipley.
Councillor John Carroll (Con, Shipley West), chairman of Shipley Town Centre Development Partnership, said: "It's great news for the town. I'm delighted we're filling another empty building and getting an upmarket designer clothing shop in the middle of town.
"And the idea of a continental-style cafe bar, where people can go for a coffee, bite to eat or a drink without having to go into a pub atmosphere, intrigues me."
The Stock Room will sell designer clothing as well as dance, hip-hop and American house music at the Wellcroft Centre, which in the past has been occupied by a squash centre and offices.
Rianna Bhuiya, of Eccleshill, one of its four owners, said they had decided to open the store following the success of their first clothes shop in South Yorkshire, and hoped to open a cafe bar on the ground floor early next year if their change of use application to Bradford Council was approved.
Clinton Cards said its plans to fit out empty premises between the Halifax bank and The Food Weighouse would create three full and two part-time jobs.
