Captain Jonathan Whitley's team scraped the narrowest of victories against President John Dickinson's players in Riddlesden Golf Club's own Ryder Cup-style competition at the weekend.
The two teams of 24 fought it out to the very last match before the Captain's team won by 30.5 to 29.5.
The President's team got off to a good start, taking the Saturday morning foursome 7-5 and halving the afternoon better ball 6-6. They extended their lead with a six and a half to five and a half win in the Sunday morning greensomes, but the Captain's team stormed back to take the afternoon individual matches 14-10 and secure overall victory.
Captain Jonathan Whitley said: "It was very close at the end, only being decided on the last match. We all got wet through on Sunday afternoon but carried on regardless."
The idea for the competition came to club members Daryl Wilson and Peter McDermott while they were watching the 1997 Ryder Cup. They thought it would be a good idea to play a similar format weekend competition at their own club.
The idea caught on, and their version of the competition has been well supported over the last five years.
