A customer carried by murdered minicab driver Mohammed Basharat may have come face-to-face with his killer, police today revealed.
Mr Basharat had picked up a fare before becoming involved in a minor accident which may have led to his death.
Detective Sergeant Colin Stansbie said: "He is known to have collected a customer from the Listers Arms in Manchester Road at about 6pm on October 20. The customer was in Mr Basharat's cab when they were involved in a road accident with a Renault Clio in Park Lane at 6.15pm."
The Afro-Caribbean driver got out of the Clio and said he would return to kill Mr Basharat. The following day, the 33-year-old was shot dead by a masked gunman in the Little Horton Private Hire office at Holme Top.
Det Sgt Stansbie said: "Two members of the public told drivers they had seen a man running in the direction of Hutson Street. We need this customer and these other people to speak to us."
The police investigation has centred on flats in Greaves Street, where two Afro-Caribbean men are known to have stayed. A search has uncovered drugs.
The gunman is described as an Afro-Caribbean, about 5ft 9in tall and slim. He was wearing a dark, possibly blue, waterproof jacket with a hood.
