Jim Jefferies today revealed he had thought about walking away from Bradford City but roared: "The one thing I will never be is a quitter."
Saturday's 4-3 win over Watford eased the pressure on the Bantams' boss by ending a slide of seven defeats in eight games.
And as he planned the next stage of the recovery at home to Wimbledon tomorrow, Jefferies admitted it had crossed his mind to leave the Valley Parade helm.
He said: "I would be lying if I said I'd never thought about it but I'm not going to do that. It will be someone else who will have to make that decision if they have to, but maybe I'll get it right before that happens.
"You always think what would be best for the team and the club. But the response of the players and the supporters makes you determined to be successful and we will continue to try to do that.
"If I believed everything I read in the papers this week I would probably say that I would be the next manager away. But the one thing I won't do is be a quitter."
Home fans showed their backing for the manager with a wall of noise as City hung on for victory despite nearly letting a three-goal cushion slip in an anxious finish.
"It shows the fans are right behind everything here. They've been like that all season and it's great to hear that kind of support.
"I've never had any complaints from the supporters. They know we try to get the ball down and play and entertain them.
"We maybe give them a few heart failures at times but that's something we have to put right. We know what's wrong with the team and there will come a time when we can sort that out.
"Right now the most important thing is that the players are right behind us as well and enjoy working with us. They went out and showed that even on a bad run, their heads are not down.
"The players needed that result and deserved it because two of the last three matches at Crystal Palace and Millwall we've deserved to win the games. When you're playing well like that and not winning it affects your confidence.
"But now we've got to follow this up with a win tomorrow and if we can get another good performance and result at Crewe on Friday then suddenly it's a very different ball game."
