Juanjo has agreed to join Bradford City. The 24-year-old Spaniard is set to link up with his former Hearts boss Jim Jefferies after successful talks at Valley Parade last night.

The length of the contract is still to be finalised but the player and his agent Angel Castillo are happy to hook up with the Bantams.

Juanjo will not be signed in time to play against Wimbledon tonight. Instead, the right winger could make his debut in Friday's televised trip to Crewe.

Jefferies said: "We have had quite a bit of competition for him. A Scottish Premier club were interested and there were two First Division teams in England keen to get him.

"But it helped the fact that he knew Billy Brown and me here as well as Gary Locke from his Hearts days.

"We're trying to bring in fresher legs here and Juanjo will do that. He's got a bit of a spark and has been playing well recently for Hearts.

"With Matt Etherington being here on loan, it will give us an option on both wings."

Juanjo, whose contract in Scotland officially runs out tomorrow, left his native Barcelona for Hearts under Jefferies in October 1998.

He played 85 games for the Jambos although 49 of those were from the bench. Juanjo scored 11 goals, including two in the recent 3-0 win over St Johnstone at Tynecastle.

Locke returns from suspension against the Dons as City chase a second home win in four days.

Jefferies is desperate to plug the leak which has seen 25 goals hit the City net in eight games.

He said: "You're asking the team to go out and score four to win and that isn't always possible.

"We've got to make sure if we go 3-0 or 4-1 up we go on and win comfortably, not have a situation like we did against Watford on Saturday."

City are the great entertainers at Valley Parade - only Division Two leaders Brentford can top their 22 goals at home while nobody has leaked more than their 17 against.

Jefferies said: "If you were a neutral on Saturday, you saw a fantastic advert for the division with goalmouth thrills at both ends. But it was a nightmare for managers.

"Wimbledon have got some good mobility and pace up front but defensively they've got problems as well, so I can't see it being 0-0 tonight. I don't mind them getting a goal or even two, as long as we knock in four or five."

Midfielder Lee Makel's contract has been extended by a month.
